So you chose to play a very Japanese game. There are many Japanese games out there, of course, but Phantasy Star Online 2: New Genesis is like, next-level Japanese. If you’re like me, you can’t think of Japan without thinking – mangas and anime.

One of the staples of anime is the transformation from ordinary to extraordinary – when things get serious. And if you’re here, it means you want that too.

PSO2 NGS has all the tools for you to have your very own Sailor Moon moments, if you know your way around. Let’s see how you can make your own Gary/Magical Girl/He-man/Power Ranger transformation in-game!

Sword, make me better! – Gary and his Demons Series (Prime Video)

*This post was written before SEGA offered the option to link looks to loadouts – however, it is still valuable information AND you can use this along with look-linking for even more options as you wish! There’s plenty of tips that are not necessarily about the looks either, if you’re looking more about the auto-chat part of it only.

Making the most Out of Looks, Cast armor and Color Sync

One key component is the CAST Color Sync settings in the Salon.  If you know what this is all about, carry on reading.

If you’ve yet to discover this vaguely-mentioned-then-forever-ignored function, follow this link to read my Guide on CAST Parts – Color Syncing Options and How to Make the Most of It.

Quick Visual of the Color Sync Settings

Looks

To begin, we will be using the first two or three entries in your Looks folder.

I personally use three modes, since my Ranger has her own way to clear PSE Bursts, but you can work with more – or less – once you know how to set it up for yourself.

Note that there is currently no easy way to switch weapon camos between Looks. If you know of one, let me know in the comment section below!

Once you have your look and motions set, save the Look in its appropriate slot (you’ll need to remember the slot number) and we will move on to the fun part!

How to Use Auto-Chat and Chat Commands to the best of its capacity

PSO2 Classic has a robust chat command system, a relic from an ancient age when people had to type things in the chat to make it happen. It allows us to create macros that will switch from one Look entry to the other. That way, you can add an emote, an appropriate transformation sequence text, and a pop-up chat box, as needed.

PSA: Before creating and adjusting these, I strongly suggest you move to your Trainia Cocoon of choice or a Photo Room, in order to respect your neighbors.

You will be spamming screaming transformation magic after all. Repeatedly.

Copy/Paste will be your friend.  Ctrl-A to choose all the line, and the usual Ctrl-C to copy, Ctrl-V to paste.

I prefer to Edit in my Chat > Chat Shortcut Settings and then call them using the chat box to test, since whatever you type in the box remains until changed.

There are many more chat commands and uses for them, and I’ll have a link to a more complete chat command guide further down.  But for now, let’s focus on what we need.

The syntax is simple, as you can type the different commands in any order you wish.

/MF1 ALL  /MF2 ALL     Will change to Outfit # and load the custom CAST color palette and Motions for that Look

/MF1  /MF2                 Will only change your looks to the # selected (is why “ALL” is important)

Cut-ins are those chat boxes cropping up here and there. You’ll see other people’s face in a small box while they’re talking.

Here’s the basic command for a cut-in:

/CI1 1 -> Display Cut-in Expression 1, Angle 1

NOTE: any of these commands must be written in non-capitalized letters, or it won’t work. They are in all Caps to see them more clearly.

Expressions, Backgrounds, Angles

Your cut-ins can be personalized through changing the expression number and the angle number. Expressions will also dictate the background of your shout out, then you can choose your best side to show the camera!

Next to this, add the text you want to see in that box.

Now you should have your chat commands all set up and ready to go. You can run them by quickly type /s# where the # is your chat command shortcut as displayed below. /s1 is your chat shortcut 1, /s2 is shortcut 2, and so on.

Note also that not all my Auto-Chats are super elaborate, with cut-ins and all that jazz. It tends to get heavy for other players otherwise.

But how about we also automate some of that?

That’s where Auto-chat comes in!

Obviously not all boxes are useful, and many of them you should leave blank for the sanity of the players around you.  (Looking at you, SKILL)

My preferred choice for transforming is Trial Start, and a return to my regular look at Trial end.  Simply insert the /s# command you want, and voila! (Tish!  Thats French!)

Addams Family series from the 60s

I mentionned earlier that I use a third mode.  That’ll be right below, in the <drum roll>  ADVANCED STUFF!

Stamps in Auto-Chat

Before we move on, a note on Stamps. They can be used in Auto-Chat and Command lines, but there’s two catches. One, you’ll need to check out the Advanced Stuff just to find the stamp number (NOT intuitive..)

The second one is that if you put a stamp command, its the only command that will trigger, and the game will ignore all your other meticulously typed entries.

I like to use the Crawford/FIRE one for my Photon Blast, for obvious reasons.

Note that you can have multiple Auto-Chats for the same event for variety.

ADVANCED STUFF

Emotes can be added in also, such as the ever popular Arrival 2 with /LA Appearance2. Now where did I get Appearance from?  Well, that’s what the full chat guide command is for, because it is NOT intuitive.

I trigger it at PSE Burst, and revert to regular battle mode 2 at PSE Climax.  Since I basically become a Burst-long Fear Eraser, I like to reflect on that.

And for that particular trick, I use a specific weapon (Crystia) for its potential, so there is this baby :

/MPAL1  -> Will select the weapon in Slot 1

/SPAL1  ->   Will select Subpalette in Slot 1

So you can switch your bars to reflect whatever you need in the current situation.

Are you a victim of Phashion?

Besides my three looks for this transformation, I also have more sets of looks that I really like to wear regularly. They mostly qualify as base looks instead of Trial or PSE Burst looks, so I’d like to switch up my base looks when my transformation ends! Would you?

It’s certainly possible!

Remember the “+” signs that can give you up to 3 auto-chat settings? Those can all be switching you into different looks!

All you need is to remember (or note down) the set numbers you want to use. Go into your Auto-Chat commands and find the sections “Trial Completed” and “PSE Burst Climax” and enter the following command: /mf# all (where the # is the look number you want)

By using both of these, you get access to 6 different looks that will be randomized, too! no need to choose! You could also use more chat boxes such as the Actions’ “Photon Blast Activated” “Revived” or “Rare Item Acquired” to change your looks at whatever interval you’d like. All of these (in fact, any Auto-Chat option) can have up to 3 variations if you click the “+” button.

The /mf# all command does not need any text input afterwards for it to work. You can silently swap looks without looking spammy, if you so wish!

Going all-out on chat commands

And here’s the link to the oft-mentioned full set of Chat commands. You can refer to the screenshots to find the details you’re looking for quickly.

But that link is only for PSO2:NGS emotes. Click on the link in the last screenshot for PSO2 Classic emotes. there’s quite a few good ones in there, too!
